Start a new genogram
Remove the sample or an earlier chart from the canvas and give the empty chart a new name, so that a family of your own can be drawn.
The editor has no separate command for an empty chart. A new genogram is started either by deleting everything on the canvas and renaming the chart, or by drafting a new family from notes with Describe. Both methods can be undone while the page remains open.
If you might need the current chart again, export it as a JSON project first.
Procedure
- 1
Click an empty part of the canvas so that the editor has the keyboard focus.
- 2
Press Ctrl+A to select everyone on the canvas.
- 3
Press Delete to remove them. A message confirms the removal and offers Undo.
- 4
Click each note, title or background that remains, and press Delete.
- 5
Click the family name at the top left, and type a new name.
To draft the new family from notes instead, click Describe, select Start a new genogram, and paste the notes. The current chart is replaced only when the draft is added, and Undo brings it back.
Ctrl+A selects only the people who are shown on the canvas. If anyone is hidden, click Show all in the Hidden people row of the View menu first, so that the hidden people are removed as well.
