Show gender identity, orientation or a secret

Add the marks that McGoldrick, Gerson and Petry (2020) use for a transgender person, for sexual orientation and for a family secret, and record gender identity in the person’s own words.

Gender identity, sexual orientation and family secrets are recorded with marks inside or beside the symbol. The editor draws these marks from three switches in the side panel. It also keeps the person’s own description of their gender as text, which appears in the side panel but is not drawn on the canvas. The marks are shown while Identity & culture is selected on the What is drawn tab of the View menu.

Procedure

  1. 1

Click the person to open the side panel.

  2. 2

Under Basics, click Identity and marks.

  3. 3

Type the person’s own description of their gender in Gender identity. The text replaces the sex in the summary under the name in the panel.

  4. 4

Switch on Transgender to draw a circle inside a square, or a square inside a circle. The mark appears only when Male or Female is selected.

  5. 5

Switch on LGBTQIA to draw an inverted triangle inside the symbol.

  6. 6

Switch on Secret to draw a small red triangle beside the symbol.

Note

Record only what the person, or the case material, states about their identity.
