Hide, copy or delete a person
Take a person off the canvas without deleting the record, copy a person as a starting point, change the size of a symbol, or delete a person from the chart.
Hiding, duplicating and deleting are found in the More menu of the side panel, and they differ in what they keep. Hiding takes the person off the canvas but keeps the record and its relationships in the chart. Deleting removes the person together with every line that joins them to others. Duplicating adds a copy of the person’s details that is not linked to anyone.
Procedure
- 1
Click the person to open the side panel.
- 2
Click the More button, which shows three dots, at the top of the panel. A menu opens with the commands that the table below describes.
- 3
Select the command that you need.
A selected person can also be deleted by pressing Delete or Backspace, or with the small delete button on the ring around the person.
Hidden people are left out of PNG, SVG and PDF exports and out of what the AI model receives, but they remain in a JSON project backup.
Commands in the More menu
| Command | Effect |
|---|---|
| Duplicate (Ctrl+D) | A copy of the person is added one place to the right. The copy has the same details and “(copy)” after the name, and it is not linked to anyone. |
| Pin a sticky note | A sticky note is added and attached to the person. |
| Keep in place on Arrange | The person is pinned, so Arrange does not move them. The command then reads Let Arrange move them. |
| Hide from the canvas | The person leaves the canvas, but the record stays in the chart. A message offers Undo. |
| Symbol size | The symbol is drawn at S, M or L. New people are drawn at M. |
| Delete and the person’s name | The person and every line that joins them to others are removed. A message offers Undo. |
Show hidden people again
When anyone is hidden, the What is drawn tab of the View menu shows a Hidden people row with the number hidden. Click Show all in that row to return every hidden person to the canvas. The editor has no command that shows one hidden person on their own, so a person hidden by mistake is best restored with Undo in the message that follows.
